Subbing

Well, today was my first day substitute teaching. I taught at the local elementary school, in the in-house detention hall.

In light of my experiences, I present to you:

MY GRAND TIPS FOR SUBBING!!!!!

1.) Never let the student know you are new at this. They will walk all over you. Trust me on this one.

2.) Be Neo-Nazi if you have to. It's easier to ease up later in the day than try to get a handle on the class after it has gone wild.

3.) Never laugh at a student acting up. It will encourage them to do more of the same.

4.) Use the principal's name early and often.

5.) On the other hand, acknowledge when a student is doing a good job. This will encourage the troublemakers to act better. Well, maybe...concieveably...

6.) Remember, you are doing this because you love kids and want to make a difference in their lives.

In other news, I had Thanksgiving dinner at my stepfather's church with my parents and my sister and niece. I am going to be all turkeyed out before Thanksgiving even starts!

Tonight I am going to Phillip's house for Thanksgiving dinner with everybody. It may be the last time I see very many of these people until after Thanksgiving. Sigh. That thought makes me sad. On the other hand, most people have very good reasons for not being around, and I wish them the best in what they are trying to do. I love these guys.
